THE Wartime Leadership Podcast: Adopted, Addicted, and Absolved The Resiliency of Dallas Goodlet. At the age of 19 years old, Dallas was told by his parents he was adopted… at age 5. He had lived his whole life as a lie, thinking he knew who his biological parents/family were. Dallas developed anger problems stemming from shame and abandonment. His whole life and identity crumbled and that led to years of reckless behavior with drugs and alcohol abuse, attempted suicides, feelings of being totally worthless. In that time, he never gave up though and developed a “never quit” resilient war cry. Unknown adoption had created a hole in his heart and soul that had to be healed.
